Abstract: This article mainly discusses the main points of excitation system design and control technology analysis of synchronous generator. The excitation system is very important for the stable and reliable operation of the generator, and also has a positive significance for improving the technical and economic benefits of the power system. In this paper, the excitation control system of 0.5MW European standard small permanent magnet synchronous generator (KUC755AE105) will be discussed in detail.

Introduction: Excitation system plays a very critical role in the steady state or transient state of synchronous generator, which directly determines the performance characteristics of the generator. An excellent excitation system can not only ensure the quality of the power supply, but also promote the safety and stability of the unit, which ultimately leads to the improvement of the technical and economic benefits of the entire power system. However, if the importance of the excitation control system is ignored in the power system stability calculation, the results can not reach the expected results.

Text: Before the synchronous generator is connected to the grid, its voltage needs to be maintained at a preset value, which means that the excitation regulation system under no-load conditions needs to maintain smooth operation. Once connected to the grid, the unit will operate in parallel with other generators in the power system. At this time, the excitation adjustment system must have the ability to have a positive impact on the stable operation of the power system. Specifically, control accuracy and dynamic performance are common requirements in daily operation.

In addition, the power system design specification also has corresponding provisions for excitation control systems, including stability indicators (such as amplitude margin m≥30db and phase margin y≥50℃), dynamic indicators (overkill Mp≤ 15%-30% and adjustment time tp≤10s) and steady state error e(oo)<1%-2% and other objectives. The basic structure of the excitation control system is usually composed of two basic components, namely the excitation power module and the excitation regulator.
