The Allen-Bradley 1756-L73 is a ControlLogix processor module in the Logix 5570 product category. It is a programmable automation controller (PAC) that is compatible for controlling large applications in factory or process automation applications. It supports simplex configuration and high availability (redundant) controller configuration to improve system availability.
The 1756-L73 is capable of connecting 128,000 input and output signals and 4,000 analog input and output signals. It can be either a local I/O configuration, where the I/O module is installed in the same chassis where the controller is installed, or a distributed I/O topology, where the extended I/O is installed in a distributed I/O topology away from the processor and provided through an extended communication bus. The controller supports Ethernet I/P, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Synchlink, and traditional communication protocols such as Data Highway Plus (DH+), Remote I/O (RIO), and third-party protocols. It can also be configured to communicate with gateways and protocol converters. Again, the controller is compatible with any Allen-Bradley encompass partner ControlLogix module.
The controller also has integrated motion capabilities as it supports SERCOS interfaces, analog motion sensors, and motion control over Ethernet I/P. When programming the controller, the applicable programming languages include relay ladder diagram, structured text, function block diagram and sequence function diagram.
